The Allianz Arena, designed by Pritzer Prize winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, is an elegant stadium design yet not one of their most inspired projects. Groundbreaking for its unique, bubble skin, the facade is it's most riveting feature as colored lighting system morphs to reflect the team playing within. Once you slip past this innovative facade, however, the building becomes just another stadium, with a typical cold concrete structure. Other than the facade I really didn't find that much intrigue in this design. One other aspect of the design is the parking garage, located below a large landscaped plaza leading from the train station to the stadium. I was rather disappointed with the experience as it was a rather far walk through poorly maintained grounds. Of course the experience might be different on game day with the plaza full of fans pre-drinking for a big match, however most of the time it is just a desolate wasteland.

The building is unique in its concept as it takes inspiration from the typology of the houses in the locality. The end result is superimposition of twelve houses. The insides of the house have the VitraHaus collection at display. Each room has a touch screen where the visitors can browse the catalogues. The place remains open from ten until six in the evening. A pretty complex and astounding structure, this is the VitraHaus building which looks like a collection of stacked houses magically balanced on one another. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron this is the new showroom for Vitra’s Home Collection at the Vitra Campus at Weil am Rhein in Germany.
A company that mainly catered to office interiors or business patrons have introduced this Home Collection for expanding its reach to people in general with a taste in art. The showroom will have “design classics as well as re-editions and products by contemporary designers“. It might be a showroom but itself is a marvelous showpiece that simply is admirable.

Da hat man endlich einen (seinen) Strich unter die Vergangenheit gezogen. Der [Wikipedia: Balkanfeldzug (1941)] – längst liegt er mehr als ein halbes Jahrhundert zurück. Wie meinte doch iosono so ironisch-treffend-richtig zu den griechischen Entschädigungsforderungen an Deutschland:

Aber nun kommt der Wanderwitz: Die Griechen sollen ihre Inseln verkaufen… Und schon ists passiert: Ob man will oder nicht – man greift zum Radiergummi, radiert am Strich herum und sagt sich: Ausgerechnet ein Deutscher muss auf eine solche Idee kommen..! Inseln verkaufen – idealerweise wohl an deutsche Touristikunternehmen*. So wird dann quasi auf friedlichem Weg wenigstens ansatzweise doch noch erreicht, was einem vor mehr als einem halben Jahrhundert mit den Fallschirmjägern nicht gelungen ward.

The Nicholas Cage vehicle, directed by Werner Herzog Bad Lieutenant Port Of Call New Orleans will be coming to DVD and Blu-ray on April 6th from First Look Studios. There isn’t much info out yet on this release but it will be priced at $28.98 SRP for the DVD and $29.98 SRP on Blu-ray. An interesting price range, you don’t see that too often. The special features listed aren’t too exciting, looks like very typical fare for this package and both formats will have the same features.
